Ah, then my chick math is typical of the folks here!
I'm only allowed 6 chickens. I have 3.
So clearly I need to try and incubate 30 eggs!
I figured that if I'm lucky, with mostly shipped eggs, 50% will hatch. Then 1/2 of those will be roos. And I also get to choose 3 hens for the school's chicken coop! So I should only have 1 spare hen. And I should keep her, regardless of my limit, in case I lose one during the year from who knows what!
I definitely have to many!! 60+ Chicks and 9 Ducks. I'm trying to keep only 3-6 breeds of chicks but after I did my chick math I ended up with 17 different breeds. I definitly will have to get rid of some or cull cull cull later. They are just so cute!!
So my friend thought it would be a good idea to raise some chickens, for the fresh eggs. We went to town and bought 3 of the cutest little chicks ever. Or so we thought. So her husband built us a little coop. We then decided we could wait for the chicks to start laying so we bought 12 laying hens, one giant rooster. It was chick days at the local Orschlens So once or twice a week we would go buy a few more. Then we discovered the farmers market. And bought more. To make a long story short it's only been 2 1/2 months and we have over 33 chicks ranging from 1 week to 10 weeks, 3 coops and building another one tomorrow AND were are still looking for Chickens.

What? It sounds perfectly sensible to *me*. Just ignore the disgruntled man mumbling in the corner.
