I am reading tons of threads on here through search about hawks and people's experiences.
Hardly anyone mentions using the owl mannequins.
I lost a baby a few weeks ago and I had no clue where it went. It was my favorite little OEG out there too.
Well a few days later I heard the girls screaming and looked out my window just in time to see a hawk fly out of my back yard.
Thankfully they scared him off.
So I went online to research how to protect them as they free range about a third of my yard.
I learned about using CD"s and owl mannequins.
I haven't put the hanging CD"s out there yet and I plan to string some fishing line from the trees too, but I did get the owl mannequin on ebay:

I move him about every other day to a new spot and the hawk has not been back since.
I didn't let them out of the coop until this thing arrived because I know once a hawk knows where food is, they will come back.
That thing has not showed since getting the owl.
I would love to hear if others have tried this or not. Also if you haven't and your chickens free range, maybe you might want to get one or two from this guy.
I bought two but have only put out one so far as I wondered if it might be unnatural to have two in the same location. Maybe in the wild an owl is territorial and only one hangs out in an area. I want to research that yet and put out the Cd's and fishing line.
I don't want to pen them up. I have quite a few and they would be too crowded. Also I enjoy watching them out there.
This has helped me relax about them alot, but I hope it is for real. Other's experiences wanted.
