Owl tries to eat my chicken in daytime

Plenty of owls around here. Mostly barred owls. They don't bother my almost fully grown barred rocks. Heck, I've seen them land within 20 feet of a rabbit in my backyard so they could catch a bug.
What exactly do you mean by "tried to eat my chicken?"

Did it have ear tufts? If so, a great horned owl....We have a pair of them nearby and I often see and hear them in daylight hours. We keep our chickens in their run because of these owls.

I do not think it had ears at all.
