Owning a rooster 101??????

Wow thank you so much, that's just what I was looking for, have you hearr other people having similar experiences with the Cochin roos? He's a beauty!

Thank you! I just love him! I know a few other people who keep Cochins, and they love their roos ;) The lady I got my frizzled roo from had a huge blue boy who was just AH-MAZING. I fell in love with the guy. So I bought his son, who looks just like him, except he's frizzled. He's not as cuddly as my other guy, but still a love. He waits for me at the coop door so I can help him up to the roost every night. Here's he is

Another way to measure roosters is how good are they with their offspring. Rooster below free-ranged last summer with two hens, an American game and a red jungle fowl (smaller hen). Rooster was attentive to hens and chicks and was on two occassions observed to engage and drive off a Coopers hawk targeting chicks. Once chicks were weaned of hens care, I called them juveniles, and rooster took over care since hens began preparations for setting next clutch.

Rooster also drove off larger juveniles from other flocks that would otherwise bully his kids.
