Happy FriYay everyone. I have 4 ducks, chickens and a miniature horse. Penny the Mini and the chickens like to drink water from the duck pool which as you know gets yuckie as soon as the ducks swim in it. Chickens and Penny are provided clean water however the duck pool water seem to be much more “tasty “ than fresh water. I am using FSL at the moment to keep the water cleaner longer and I use it in the coop as well. I read about Oxine recently in https://www.shagbarkbantams.com/ and here as well. They are older discussions so I was wondering has anyone else used any of them with success, how and why do you like them. Thank you

I think the only way to keep duck water clean(er) is to dump and refresh daily.
Not sure what lime does in water.
Hope someone who actually knows from experience chimes in, as I am curious.

Hi @aart sorry for the late reply. Apparently nobody has any experience with them. I was hoping to get some input.
I use the FSL in the duck pool and it seems to keep it cleaner longer. I used to empty it every other day and nowe every three days.

Does the FSL act like of flocculant that sinks detritus, making the water seem more clear?
Might need to ask these things in a ponding forum.

Yes. It seems to work that way. It also helps prevent algae. I didn’t know there was a ponding forum. Maybe I’ll try that.

Wonder what the water's ph is?
One of the best I found was about koi ponds, koiphen dot com, I studied there for about 5 years. Learning a lot about water chemistry and filtration and fish poop, but not sure you'll find a lot about duck ponds.

I couldn’t tell you. How do I find that out? Fish poop vs duck poop. Those pesky ducks sure poop a lot.

Not FSL or Oxine related but if you have a minute can you please help me with my post about the black spots on my hen’s foot. It’s in the Emergency/Sickness forum. Thank you.

Water test strips or drops.
Ph probably doesn't matter with ducks, but it sure does with fish.
Getting poops out of the water is the key too keeping it clean,
again matters more with fish, but it's pretty hard to do.
