Oxygen egg?

How does oxygen work in an egg and when does the chick stop using the cell and what happens when the white skin stuff between the chick and the shell breaks? And does the veins ever stick to the white membrane. I say white because my eggs are dark in shell color.

They don’t need oxygen until the hatching process. Just like human babies in the amniotic sac. Once they begin breaking through the eggshell, the membrane begins to dry out, they (should) will be introduced to air in this phase. There definitely are “veins” in the membrane but as long as the chick continues to work on getting out of the shell, the chick will detach normally. It takes some time, and you shouldn’t help them unless absolutely necessary. If you try to break them out, there’s a big possibility you could damage that blood supply before they’ve detached, causing excess bleeding and possible death. You have some currently hatching?

Thanks so much!!!! When they detach, is it from the absorbing of the yolk? All my eggs are 4 days late and I opened an egg to try and understand. It seemed like they all died, but I didnt know! I really think and pray that it was dead before I broke into the egg. I miss the baby so much and it hurts me to know that it may have suffered in some way. But the chick was incredibly close to being completely grown! It's yolk was still attached and veins too. I feel so horrible and guilt but I really really believe that it would have been more bigger and no yolk by now if it had been alive. So I have all the hope that I didn't harm it.

OH MY GOSH!!!! I messed up I think day 18 my calendar was off. I hate myself right now.

Okay I am so confused. I put them in the incubator 25th of September evening. Please help! They're non jumbo coturnix quail. I raised the humidity at 15th day and stopped turning them at day 16 of incubation

No no no. Don’t hate yourself. Believe me, I’ve made many mistakes. It’s part of the learning and definitely doesn’t make you a bad person! Give the eggs 21-25 days to hatch. They should do so on their own. I usually hatch them under a broody hen, and I’ve had eggs hatch on time (21 days) about 90% of the time. But it’s possible for them to be late and still be ok. Keep your chin up!!!

other factors could have made them take longer. What have I done.

If you put them in on 9/25, they should hatch from 10/15 to 10/19. In that vicinity.
