When I give my birds oyster shell, they eat it until all that is left is the shell dust. Will they eat the dust, or should I throw it out and put in fresh oyster shell?

Everyone always says how long their oyster shell lasts them. I have 14 hens and have gone through at least 6 pounds of o.s. in the last 5 weeks! They must really crave it??

Thanks!

They have more trouble picking up the fines but don't toss them. Sprinkle it over their food and they might get some of it or make a mash treat and mix it in.

You could mix the 'dust' in with their layer pellets (or what ever you feed) and make a wet mash out of it, that way you wouldn't be wasting any of it.
