Oyster shell - who eating it?

I have switched from starter to grower feed. There is still layer feed in one of the feeders because I need to use it up. There is oyster shell in a small container in the coop for the layers. But I don't know that the layers are eating it. I have seen my younger birds pecking at it, then I find it spilled on the coop floor. I am afraid it is not good for my young birds, pullets and cockerels. How can I put it out so that only the layers get it? Is that even possible now that they are all pretty much the same size?
