Do you mix the oyster shells into the food or does it go in a different bowl? Do you just toss the grit on the ground for them to forage?

I would recommend serving the oyster shells on the side unless you experience the whole flock having softer shells (which happened to me as I mix my own feed, so I mix my oyster shell in now, and no more worries).

I mix some grit in too as I feed whole grains. But I also have bins of oyster shell and grit for them to have free choice.

I have a bowl of each, oyster shell and grit in a station opposite end of coop from feed. All free choice.

We've just added a grit feeder to the run, it contains mixed grit, so free choice. I would say they seem a little slow on the uptake at the moment.

I put both in seperate container in the coop and they do fine. This way it's free choice and always available.I'm in the process of redoin my coop and I may build it in the wall.
