oyster shells

I got some crushed oyster shells to give to my Chickens today. I feed them a mix of laying mesh and cracked corn already. Do I put it in a sperate container or just throw it around in the coop? The shells look different then the ones my grandparents used to give theirs. What else is good to feed chickens? I heard some table scraps are good.

FIRST:

I have a seperate feeder/bin thingy for the oyster shells. Seems to work well.
