Can you use oyster shells instead of grit? No one around here carries the grit. They said the chicks and ducklings get it in their feed. I wanted to start giving my ducklings some greens.

I forgot to mention they are all inside right now. What else could I use if not oyster shells.

Oyster shells provide calcium. They do not serve the same purpose as grit. Can you get parakeet/cockatiel grit?

even if you can go to a creek and scoop up abunch of small gravels that would be fine as long as you make sure there is no glass or any trash in it I use the ohio sand we brought in for our personal beech we made in our lake i scoop it up with a bucket and set it back to dry! then everyone chickens and ducks get it!

if you buy your feed from a feed store that mixes it up for you and sells it by the pound, they might add grit. But if you buy a 25 or 50lb bag od feed and scratch, it does not have grit in it.
