We have some hens that are 20 and 21 weeks old. We are starting to get a few eggs a day and I was wanting to know when do you start offering Oyster Shells? We offer them grit now and we are still feeding them a Grower/Finisher feed. I was told not to give a Layer feed untill they was all laying eggs. Is this correct to?
Thanks for your help.

your hens are plenty old now and they are laying, you should switch to layer feed, it has a higher calcium rate so your eggs have better shells. I am not sure when and how much oyster shell, so hopefuly someone else can answer that.

You can offer oyster shell free choice now - in fact, if they are laying, you should be giving it to them free choice. I put mine in a dog bowl underneath the coop, which is on stilts. Enjoy your eggs!
