yes, I do that too. It makes the skin let go of the bumble. The one pictured above became mostly external, and the one that I posted previously (which went all the way through to be a bump between her toes on the top of the foot) let go mostly on their own, because the softened skin let go of the bumble.I have heard of using Vaseline as well.
The cutting I do is to loosen, or to the bumble itself, sometimes leave a little bit, bandaging, coming back and removing the rest when the skin has healed a bit. I have had minimal bleeding, and no-open wound to worry about re-infecting.
I really really do not enjoy the surgery part of chicken-care
