Neighbour suggests we paint the new coop inside and outside. We planned to paint the outside but I'd rather just add insulation board to inside and you can't paint that - opinions?

Insulation board inside is a no-no, unless you cover it. Chickens love that stuff and will tear it to shreds.

The others are right, a simple light shade of paint inside will make it easy to clean and, will make any problems stand out and will dispel some of the gloom that seems to accompany such farm structures.

I painted my coop with oil based floor and porch paint. 3 coats inside and the poo washes off with ease. I do use pine shavings as litter to help absorb the moisture in the poo. I am very happy with the painted inside.

I would agree that a gloss finish is a plus - easier to clean.
Something else you may want to consider is Kilz or it's old fashioned ancestor, whitewash.
Both have anti-fungal, anti germ properties that are good in a chicken house.

I painted my whole coop-inside and out-with semi-gloss exterior paint. I also painted the ramp. I have a small coop and clean it every two weeks, so it's just a matter of using the power-wash setting on my garden hose nozzle and hosing everything down. I love it
