Paint or stain?

We just built our coop. What is the best for the chicks for the inside & outside....paint or stain?

I would imagine either one would be fine as long as its well cured and aired out before moving them in. I personally always paint just becuase I can normally find some at lowes on the discount rack lol. Good luck with the project.

The chickens don't care

(except they would probably prefer a bright inside, which means either a *light* stain or white paint).

A stain doesn't protect the wood for quite as long as paint but OTOH it does not flake off either, so no scraping to do when it comes time to re-stain. Paint protects a bit longer if properly applied in the first place i.e. prime first then 2 coats of paint, all coats THIN not thick; but you will have to scrape all the loose and suspicious parts off before repainting, which can be a nuisance.

That's really a decision about your convenience, though

If you decide to go this direction, exterior paint will be more durable (and washable) than interior paint. Prime well first.

I was thinking on the same thing, but believe I'm going to stain. My reason is I want my coop to blend in with the yard and stain would match nicely with our patio furniture. Our house is blue, but since the landlord is going to paint it next year, I'd hate to paint it blue and he change the color to yellow or gren.

I did both paint and stain. Doesn't bother the 3 B's at all

Thanks for the help. I decided to paint (since I already had the paint..cheap ya know) I am attaching a pic of me painting the interior!

My DH took this as he thought it was just too funny and then emailed to all my friends, who by the way think I am crazy already!

Here are a couple more pics. I plan to post more once we get it in the yard. We bought this as a kit on ebay. It was really reasonable and helped me to get it complete fast as I don't have alot of time to start from scratch.
