Paint vs Stain on inside of Coop

I built a 8x8 coop and wanted to know every ones opinions on what they used inside the coop on the plywood and 2x4's. I am trying to decide which will last longest. I know on Decks you have to restain every few years, but the stain goes deeper into the wood than paint that can get chipped off by the birds. I want to be able to hose it out a few times a year or as needed. Should I stain it or paint it.

I, Myself prefer paint, because outside the fumes from paint dissipate quicker. Plus, you can buy low VOC's-type paint, and that helps, too. Check these sites out:

For the inside, especially the floor, I personally think well-applied semigloss exterior latex is best. You don't want to have to reapply it any sooner than necessary (especially if you are one of those hosing-out people and need decent waterproofness on an ongoing basis). It will not peel for a long, long time if you apply it properly in the first place, meaning: fill cracks, sand, clean well with tack cloth or equivalent, prime well (thin coat, not thick) then apply several thin coats of yer paint.

You should have enough bedding that chickens are not normally walking directly on the floor; and even where they do occasionally walk on areas where the bedding has shifted away, they won't chip the paint so much as gradually 'sand it down' so to speak. Sufficient bedding, and attention to its adjustment, will prevent this anyhow.

Staining wouldn't be the end of the world of course, I just think that if you are a hoser so to speak

then paint would serve you better longer.
