Painting floors vs. linoleum flooring???

Quote:
Like ChickieMomma we glued ours down with a heavy construction glue, every piece of wood in our coop is glued AND screwed togther. I BELIEVE that is what we paid, very close to it if not exactly as my bill that day was $122.00 which included the vinyl remnant, a whole lot of 1 x 2 pine, some 2 x 4s, the hardware cloth, chicken wire AND a $32.00 can of Bear Spar Stain... It is sold in rolls, looks like this...

Thanks for all the great replys..>i think were going to go ahead and get a remnant...ya they are that cheap...we seen one but didn't get it. I believe it was 21.00 is all! So when all is said and done I will head to pick it up...prob this weekend. I will also paint it...why not, we have the extra paint my as well use it! lol Ok does anyone know how long it took for their coop to dry using outdoor oil based paint? I'm assuming about 2 or 3 days to be safe?

Whatever you do...avoid shag carpet.

When it was hot and dry out it toke about 2 days to dry (with a fan). This time of year with alot of moisture in the air it will take longer.
Have to agree with EGG, avoid the shag carpet

This seems to be this recent opinion that you need to do something to your plywood flooring. You don't.

Since your flooring is going to be covered by several inches of shavings or straw, wet poop never reaches the wood. It eventually dries, and may later make contact with the wood, which will do no harm.

Let's pick a really worst case scenario: let's say the floor gets tons of water on it, and tons of wet poop stuck to it. Let's further say that the wood is damaged beyond repair. Even in this very unlikely event, a portion of plywood may be cut out and replaced!

Wood shavings? I was going to use play sand on the ground for bedding in mine. It does not need to be replaced like wood shavings. That is what I have on the ground in my peacock pen too and it is maintenance free!

I cover an area with some hay or straw to provide them a softer bedding option but they never use it.
The linoleum looks very nice now but i am imagining it covered in chicken poop. If you don't use bedding it will need to be mopped constantly. If you do use bedding, there is no point in having the linoleum underneath :|... Is the linoleum going to be all covered up with bedding ?

I like the linoleum on the walls though. It will make wash down much easier!
