Weather permiting I want to paint my coop tomorrow. The birds will be in their run is it safe to paint the outside of an occupied coop?

Oh boy, mine are so nosy, I would not trust them around wet paint at all! Is there any way you can cordon off the area you are painting so they can't get to it until it is dry? If they can't get at the paint, I'm sure it is just fine.

I wouldn't worry about a "safe" paint more that they'll mess it up your hard work. They're really good at getting into things with all their shenanigans. If possible I would let them free range while you paint to help them be distracted with other things... I would just hate for one of them to dust bathe all over your paint

Yep, mine were free ranging when I was painting, but still ended up with paint on their feathers until their molt. They are like nosey toddlers. And the thought of them dustbathe-ing next to fresh paint? eeeeek

Thank you all. Only one side of their coop is attached to the run and with that side I think they are still to scared of me to try and investigate. I have only had them for a week and have not coerced them into liking me yet(even with handfuls of corn and mealworms). So maybe i will get the outside 3 walls done and maybe try for the inside wall. Thank you again you are all awesome.

I painted my coop last weekend but it had no birds inside. My flock was then "banished" to the coop and out of the spare bedroom

I would have to get them in their run for the touch up I plan to do, but it won't be for about 2-3 weeks, while they get to know their new diggs!
