1. Does anyone have dimensions for the space you need for pairing quail 3:1

2. If quail are kept in a pen with a sheltered area for rain and feed troughs, would that stop the fighting

Georgia Giants are kept one male to one female. They need 4+ square feet per bird.

They fight when they are not paired properly or are crowded in closely. Georgia Giants are somewhat of a non aggressive Bobwhite. So if they are fighting, they are not being housed properly.

So I can keep more than one rooster in the same enclosure as long as I provide him his own mate. I just ordered 120 eggs but I have been hearing that you should not expect more than 50% to hatch due to handling during shipping. Do you agree with this.

50% hatch rate on shipped eggs is to be expected. I have had 70% if they were shipped well. Depends on the abuse they received during shipment.

You can keep pairs together IF you have big spaces. Bobwhite quail are highly territorial during breeding season and like a lot of space for breeding. If you cram them in, they will fight. If you give them enough space, flight pens or aviary style environments, you can keep pairs together.

So a pair of GA Giants would need 8sqft minimum? I have a 10x13(130sqft) pen and trying to figure out the best combo of males to females. Your response above says 1:1 so 16 pairs for my size pen? It seems like a lot of males but I dont have any experience lol

Giants are large birds and the more room.you can offer, the better. I suggest you try and see how it works all together, every flock of birds has different temperaments. Were these birds all raised together?

My quail pens all have dugouts under the baseboards, (not by design) the quail dig holes and go between the various pens....not the most ideal but if they don't get along in one pen they try the next pen until they find the right one. so far this has worked for me. My pens are 320sq.ft. and I usually run 25 to 30 birds per pen.
