So I was just at a poultry swap, ind of an impulsive buy, but i got a trio of unrelated palawans for $200. as i unsderstand this is a great deal and such, i assume though they have the same food requirements as my amhersts??? anyways, i have a seperate pen for them, with the bottom quarter being plastic to block against drafts. any fine points to raising these birds?

Palawans for 200.00 a trio? They go for 600.00 a pr,so if they are palawans you got an eggcellent deal.Their diet is a little different from Amherst. They require fruits, veggies, peanuts(unsalted only as for any birds)mealworms, crickets along with gamebird feed. They also may need heat in the winter months.Could you please post some pics of them?

And I forgot to mention. They will not breed in a trio.Eventually one of the hens will kill the other so I would seprate them.I had 2 hens together for 3 years with no problem and then one day 1 killed the other. They were supposed to be a pair but to young to tell I guess.I was so happy to see eggs in their cage and then not 1 fertile, now I know why. It's one of those things that people forget to tell others, but then again it helps to read up on things before you invest money into them.

Hi all,
I apopogise, i was really busy this weekend. i will try and take some pics tomorrow, but am fairly sure they are palawans... and unsalted peanuts? i feed everything else to the amhersts already... and sorry jeffro, i sent her to a 4H kid in alberta who needed a hen... sorry about that. and the pair is quite happy now, but they ust be older if the roo is fully feathered now??? and i have a heat lamp i can install there for the winter

I would not provide a heat source. What if your half way thru winter and they are all use to the heat and then you lose power?Birds produce down naturally so they can insulate themselves for the cold months. If you provide heat they will not produce the down they need.
