I raise American gamefowl. Their eyes are supposed to be orange. I do get some with paler eyes. These have irises that are more yellowish.
Mine are Morgan whitehackles, and I have seen this in other Morgans. Aseel, which have light eyes, seem to have been bred into all gamefowl in the British isles and elsewhere. So that's my theory . . .
Does anyone know if such eye color is recessive? I figure it must be, since most of the breeders have had orange eyes (but I only started looking closely this year when I got so may paler eyed fowl). If so, I realize I am not getting rid of the recessive if I breed paler-eyed fowl. But that would be a looong process because I assume it is carried by almost every bird.
