All of this was from recycled pallets and wood picked up off the street and from the dying shed in the background...i bought, paint, fasteners, hardware cloth and hinges, etc but the rest of it was just paid for in labor...lol...I am making a run on the right side out of pallets that can be moved around when the grass in the pen is shot...I have a pine tree that i will top out and use for a platform to drape my netting over...we have 5 white leghorns and 2 red sex links and either 2 RIR or brown leghorns...we got them 2 weeks before Easter and only lost 1 out of ten...they would rather sleep in the old dumpy nesting box that someone gave me instead of the Chicken Mahal....there are 3 nesting boxes on each end of the penthouse ..the inside is painted as well and there is an in/out door that is lockable and another door that swings open to get in to clean it out...the main box on the bottom has a ladder and some perches for hopping upstairs from...i framed a guillotine door inside the kennel/pen so the girls can be locked down at night with out being harassed or killed by vermin...we live next to some old apartments and sometimes their rats pay a visit but the whole top of the run is hardware clothed and the bottom of the big box is HC'd too...the tire with the dirt and sawdust mix is for baths...did i leave anything out???Oh yeah , boy I sure do want some fresh eggs<patiently tapping foot>....I will answer any questions anyone has and btw...this is my first post...Billy

here are a few pics taken today...you can see the short ladder/walk and a couple of the painted perches...figured those would be easier to clean in the long run...i am putting coarse grain red sand in the long run soon...we have been having a good bit of rain and there is a straw shortage in the south right now...sand will drain better and be less affected..the girls love their mirror and a couple of them are pretty fond of me too...lol...I framed up some pallets earlier to give them another area to explore on the end where the door lets down and i will take pics of the inside with the coop doors open...after my daughter's field day tomorrow I am hooking up the new watering cups that came in...to an elevated reservoir...the girls sure can foul/fowl up the water...hehe...one of the girls has a thing for my wedding band and my whiskers...the big beams in the run are +100 year old Hart pine beams from an old department store down town here...i have 2 small buildings in Mississippi to go tear down and haul back up here for more materials to use eventually...+100 yrs old as well....I wish there was some way to utilize the chicken waste in my aquaponic system...oh wait I have catfish in my tubs for that-lol......never mind....here is a link for anyone that is interested in exploring other farming options...
