Hi all.
I feel like I'm starting a new thread everyday... so many questions!
Good news is, I have most of my construction done so soon I probably won't ask as much lol.

But, what do you think of Palo Verde needles as nesting material?
The reason I ask is that I have an endless supply of them as I have Palo Verde trees, and I'm trying to make these chickens as hassle free as possible and use as many materials from home as possible (I haven't had to purchase anything but a pack of brackets, the chickens, and their food thus far for their coop).

I use the needles in compost and as mulch for all my plants, I assume they're safe... Just want input.

I have a small set of nest boxes that are like 10-11inX15in and am putting together another set that will have 2-3 milk crates or something of that nature.
My birds are still insanely young so I won't have to worry about actual nesting for many more months, but I have the time now to get all of this done.

Hum, I guess I am not a good person to answer, because my Spruce needles are super sharp. Like, you can get them stuck in your foot like a splinter sharp.

So....... Are your needles soft and comfy? If they feel good to your hands, and you can shuffle through them without getting your feet jabbed, then I would think "YEAH! Free bedding!"

Yes, I think palo verde needles would be fine. I'd put a little DE in there, just to dry out any bugs that may be hanging out.

I'll do the DE. I found my loner girl in one today (she was just reintroduced after an injury so the others wont hangout with her). I put some frozen water bottles in it for her to keep cool. Seems like she likes it at least.
