My tiny girl, Pancake, has decided it's her time to be broody.

It's also my first time trying to hatch any sort of egg.

Any tips would be appreciated. I've already separated her and the eggs to a safe place so she's not being stepped on by my other girls. Food and water is near with clean bedding all the time.

April 19th would be hatching day if it works. Fx it does!!

If she is a good broody, she'll take care of it all. A few things to know:

You can candle the eggs at around day 7-10 to see if their is any development. It's a lot of fun and sometimes you can see the embryo moving! If it is around day 14 and the egg is clear or has not made progress, discard it.

Pancake will come off the next once or twice a day to eat, drink, and poop. Make sure she has a big enough space to walk around and stretch.

Is she a bantam?

Hens typically have good hatch rates and normally have no reason to worry. Best of luck to you and Pancake!

Thank goodness. I keep checking on her like a new parent lol. For candling I can use a strong flashlight, correct? I don't have a candler or incubator yet. That was going to be my project for next winter :)

Yes, she's a bantam. I've heard they make good mothers along with silkies.

Thank you. I'll definitely update this post. Hopefully Pancake and I have a successful hatch. Fx.

Yes! Bantams are especially good mothers. And yes, a flashlight works just fine! I've even used my phone flashlight before 😅

Let me know if you have any other questions!

I'm a grandma!! All three hatched this morning and are doing well.
Pancake is being an awesome mama❣️ I wasn't sure how she would be as she's not very old herself.
