Panting and keeping to self

She def has an impacted crop. Or it was full this morning so that’s what it would be right? What do I do to help her?

Okay so I searched for impacted crop and from that- I’m having my husband give her oil and gently massage the crop. Unfortunately I’m at work and he is leaving for work, so I can’t do it repeatedly until the afternoon when I get home.

While the crop seemed large and hard, she was standing this morning and when I put her water in, she drank. I’m just hoping that things start moving or I can get them moving when I get home.

Is there anything else I can do right now?

Well there is no more golf ball lump BUT I also am not seeing any poop. That seems odd. I’m keeping her inside but I’m going to give her some more coconut oil with food and see how she does tonight. I appreciate all of your help. If there’s anything else I need to keep a watch on, please let me know!

How's she doing today? Once you've identified that she has crop issue it's best to leave food and water with her so she can drink/eat when she needs (not sure if that's what you;ve been doing or not but water is important for clearing an impaction so I thought I'd mention it.)

Here's a good article on crop issues if you haven't read it already.

Thanks for checking in. She was better this morning. Up and wanted to run. I still didn’t like the feeling of the crop though. Not good ball any more but kind of still larger than I expected. I did let her go back outside cause she was making such a racket. I checked her this afternoon when I got him and it felt harder again compared to my other girls. They all let me check them out to compare.

I was going o head out now and bring her in for the night. I was thinking of redoing the oil? And then checking her in the am?

Sounds like you're on the right track with your girl. Is she pooping normally? Any eggs?

I'd keep giving oil and doing massages until her crop feels completely flat and empty in the morning. If it's starting to feel squishy in the morning it may have gone a little sour due to the impaction. If so you can try giving some yogurt or apple cider vinegar water to see if that clears it up, but it might need antifungal cream.

I don’t think she has laid. I let her outside today and I had two eggs but I am assuming from my other girls. She is pooping and it looks pretty normal. I did two rounds of coconut oil and massages tonight and it feels soft but squishy and it’s like I can feel stuff in there. I didn’t give her the stool softener like the article suggested yet. I’m hesitant only because I’m so new at this. I don’t know if I’m making a mistake with what I’m feeling. She is sleeping inside overnight so I can check her first thing in the morning.

She is acting back to herself (no more squatting and laying) and getting rambunctious so I can’t imagine keeping her inside all day. I don’t know if the squishy weird feeling means I should to the apple cider vinegar and then let her do her thing outside in the run. Of course I’ll check her when I get home.

Pics are her yesterday and today. Not to gain any info but just to see how sweet she is. Though she was getting a bit feisty at the end of the massage. I don’t know how I’ve gotten so attached to these girls. We lost our Geraldine to a hawk recently so I’m really stressing over this sickness with Pickles.

So sorry about Geraldine... I lost a hen to hawk a few years ago and it was so sad.

Since Pickles seems to be feeling well I wouldn't hesitate to leave her with the flock during the day (in fact it's probably best) and I think she's on her way to a full recovery.

Squishy usually means sour. You can try natural remedies first if you like since she's feeling ok or just go straight to the monistat.

Just wanted to close out by saying Pickles seems back to normal! She’s been outside with the other girls but I have been checking on her. She probably thinks I’m a weirdo rubbing her crop and checking her 🤦‍♀️ so far so good. Thank you again!

Also- the hawks are just everywhere. I’m just am in fear of them. The run is covered but still. I like my girls wondering around with me back there in the garden sometimes. But one swooped even when I was outside and I leapt in front of the girls and it almost hit me.
