Panting baby chick

Hi there,

My hen recently hatched some beautiful baby chicks, and today I noticed one of the chicks was panting and sometimes making these “sneezing” noises. The chick is 4-5 days old. I don’t know what’s wrong I’ve taken it away from the rest and put it on its own with a light and food and water.

Has anyone ever experienced this with baby chicks? What can I do to help him?

I’d appreciate your help!

This is the little chick

I would leave it with the Hen. Possibly it just was a bit warm. Sneezing doesn't always mean illness.

The little chick has his wings drooping and is just panting non stop, it’s like he is struggling to breath properly

How hot is it where you live? It’s 45 celcius here in NSW at the moment and my baby chicks are hot but they have survived, even my day olds

That's not good. Sometimes they have issues with their hearts too. Just keep watching it or give it to Momma and wait it out..

I personally would give it to mum, as it will be happier even if it does die at least it was with its mum

Yes, I leave baby Birds with Momma because they are imprinted to her and it's stressful when separated from her.
