We are first time chicken owners who have a sick girl and have no idea what is wrong or how to help her. She is getting weaker fast and need some advice ASAP!! Please help.

1) What type of bird , age and weight.
Aracauna - 17 Weeks old (we've had her since she was 5 days), approx 10lbs??
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
I first noticed her squatting and panting about 4 days ago. None of our girls have started laying yet, but they are all showing signs (red comb, singing). I thought she was getting ready to lay, but since then she is very lethargic. Sits much of the day. I noticed last night that her skin is very dry and more whitish (vs her sisters are more yellowed toned) and starting to flake (no mites seen). She walks a little, but primarily sits and is definitely getting more weak. I picked her up today out of the coop and set her down outside and she fell forward on her breast.
3) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
Not that I have seen.
4) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
The only change that we have changed is we got rid of our rooster (which we are not allowed to have)...but I'm pretty sure she was sick before that happened.
5) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
Chick starter, scratch grain, some kitchen scraps (raspberries, lettuce, zucchini, plums) whatever bugs and grass, etc they get from our backyard
6) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Some looks normal (brownish with white cap) and some is runny green
7) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
Nothing so far. I checked her vent it looks fine and checked her crop and that feels fine (though I am a first time chicken owner and have never really felt a crop before)
8 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
I would prefer home rememdies, but if we are going to lose her I'd take her to a vet.
9) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
N/A
10) Describe the housing/bedding in use
6x6 coop (for 8 hens) we are using the deep litter method with pine shavings, no ammonia smell, no flies.

Any help/advice anyone can give is appreciated. We have tried to separate her by putting her in a box in the hen yard with her own food and water (one of the other hens was picking on her and we are hoping to keep the others from getting sick)

thanks!

Is she eating and drinking? I would try giving her vitamins (PolyVisol childrens by Enfamil.. not with iron), 2 -3 drops in her beak each day. Add poultry electrolytes to her water, Pedialyte will work in a pinch. Maybe make a mash of her crumbles with a boiled egg yolk, some applesauce, and the electrolyte water, could even add cooked oatmeal. See if this perks her up a bit.

She is eating and drinking. I'll give the new diet a try. I think the most discerning symptom she has that I have not read about is her dry skin that is flaking. Is that a sign of something specific?

Is it all of her skin, or just on legs, or any certain area?

It doesn't appear to be on her legs, but primarily on her neck. Compared to the other chickens she here feathers seem very "loose". and she seems to be missing quite a few neck feathers.

We did have a rooster that is now gone who used to pick on the hens by grabbing their neck feathers and plucking them out.

Does mites cause the weakness she is exhibiting?

Well, I just went out at 11pm to see if I could see any mite on my sick hen and no where did I see anything even closely resembling mites. I checked her vent and all around her neck where she seems most afflicted.

I gave her some Polyvisol and added pedialyte to her water and will feed her the egg/mash tomorrow. (i've been at work all day).

She is still in the coop but kept in a separate box at this time with her own food and water. Is that good enough for now or should she be totally separated from the other healthy hens.

I won't be able to clean out the coop until Sat as I am working all day and need to go to the feed store after work to get the poultry dust. is waiting another day going to be too long?

thanks for all the advice..hope she gets better soon

There are several very good chicken fixers on here, like threehorses and dlunicorn, but I don't know why they haven't posted. Maybe you could PM them directly.
Does she look like the hen in this thread:

Did you feel a lump near her vent, like as if she's egg-bound?

Does she seem skinny compared to your other hens?

You may have to force feed her to keep her energy level up. The poly-vi-sol without iron, hardboiled egg yolk, probiotics/ plain yogurt, mixed with lay crumbles..... I guess it depends what you have.

Threehorses always gives great diet advice, you can search her threads. She gives mostly the same diet advice for ailing chickens.

She doesn't look that bad. She more just sits a lot all puffed out like she's not holding herself together. She is still plump and when I hand feed her she still eats and drinks. When she stands she is erect and she stands and peers out of her box, but she has not attempted to fly out of it. It seems like she has to muster all her strength to stand and walk...btw how does one force feed a chicken? I know how to open a dog's mouth, but how about a chicken's beak?
