Until I read this article I didn't understand why my chickens preferred their 50 sq ft run over their big one ( 8 x 16 ) After I removed the UV treated tarp they use them both.

How do I increase her calcium? I have oyster shells in addition to her normal feed but she doesn’t usually eat the oyster shells. She has never had an issue with soft shells before.

I feed my shells back to the chickens every day. I rinse the used shells, crush them in my hand, and put them out with the daily food scraps. Someone once told me that chickens will eat calcium (egg, oyster, etc.) when their body is deficient.

If she is not interested in the egg or oyster shells, I agree with the posters that said to give her more time to recover.

Get some of this. It's calcium citrate, a form of calcium that absorbs better than oyster shell. Give one tablet per day directly into the beak until you see normal shells. Then you can go back to relying on oyster shell, and just keep this citrate handy in case the shells become a problem again.View attachment 3090986
