paper thin egg shells and broken eggs

Wow I can' believe they still ate their own eggs. My birds I consider smart, but lol.. I guess thank god their not that smart! They also 100% free range so maybe mine just want to get outta the nest back into the action lol. My PBR do lay the creamy chalky feeling eggs, but they have never broken under them.. I was just curious. Thanks for the info :)

Ps my PBR are also the smallest of my hens. I have also Australorps and a RIR..

Yes .. I bought some oyster shell too and my dog eats more of it then my birds :/ which is annoying.
Hope it works! I always give it to them with breakfast :)
Ha! My dog eats it too!!! My plan tomorrow is to find a place in the coop/run for the chicken food and shell where the dogs can’t get to it. Until now we’ve just thrown it out like scratch and the chickens all eat when they feel like it. I think one consistent feeding area will help. I hope.

I do the exact same thing. I was concerned for a min when I noticed my dogs doo doo had specs in it.. I'm thinking omg so many specs! Time to be wormed! ... no it was the cracked corn.

I gave up. I had a friend who was willing to take her, rubber eggs and all and she's now happily laying her rubber eggs elsewhere. She was very tame and the lady in question just wanted a pet. So all's well there. I am suspecting that it's a genetic flaw of some sort as the barred rock came from the same hatchery as 2 other barred rocks who developed weird issues on me. The rest of my flock (all Wyandotte) lay very strong shelled eggs.
On using crushed egg shells, I tried that once. Shortly after I did I had a sudden problem with hens breaking and eating their own eggs. I've always feared to give any hens crushed eggshells again as I know that chickens have really good color recognition and I'm afraid they will see the color of the shells and decide that's the color of food.
Hmm that’s interesting. I’m glad you found a home for her! Makes me wonder if this is going to be a permanent problem for me or not. I guess time will tell! I’ll have to keep a closer eye on them for s few days. I read that illness can cause this problem too but they all seem healthy to me. I’m new to chickens and they puzzle me :idunno. So much to learn!!!
