It has been 36 hours since I got my chicks and I am wondering if I can take up the paper towels and they still be fine.

As long as they are eating well, know where their food is, yes.

Once i let them out of the box they started eating lol, now they are becoming very mischievous

Mine were on the paper towels for 24 hours. I took off the towels and they started to peck and scratch the litter. I was wondering if I should wait one more day. Then they stared to eat out of the feeders. I think mine will be fine. Its up to you. Some ppl wait longer than 24 hours. Since yours have been 36 hours, I bet they will be fine. Lets see what others think.

Actually I never used paper towels, just large flake pine shavings. They were still fine.

I kept mine on paper towels for the first week... it made clean-up easy, and I didn't need to worry about them pecking at anything or slipping around.

My litter is peat moss so the dung can go straight to compost from the brooder

I 've never heard of large flake shavings. I will have to look in to that. Thanks.
