The dose is 200ml of diluent and the one vial of virus. The give 0.2 ml each. I used a 25 guage for the shots. Some people say you have to use a 23 guage, but it looked so big!

You can get poultry vits , it comes in a packet and the ratio is 1 gram per gallon, OR 1 tsp per 5 gallons. It's got all the vitamins and electrolytes in it

thanks for your reply leadwolf1 its very helpfull, but would a wormer be okay with all of these vitamins? and what about nurtidrench?

they are looking worse today at this point i am willing to try anything and everything, like you i cant just whatch as my chickens waste away.

checked on my girl pumpkin, she is getting worse, her droppings are green and runny but in it i found a dark pinkish thing when i smashed it it had what looked like little eggs in it. could that be a worm? if it is a worm what kind do u think it is? it was small about the size of .....a quarter of a penny or something.

I have no idea what something pink the size of a dime or quarter with little egg like things in it. I've never heard of a worm passing that. But that's me.
Bright green poo is not a good thing. It means that the hen is starved to the end stage.

My sick hen has green poo, but will eat a slice of bread. But her digestive system is not moving the food down, so her crop is getting big again.

One of sweet 8 week old Polish chicks, very spunky till now, is sitting with her eyes closed and somewhat limp.

o my poor girl i hope i dont loose her. should i worm her and start vitamin therapy?

I would start vitamins, I did. I don't think I would worm her unless you actually see worms, because she is weak.

My chick is not doing well . And I had to take the other one away because she is still looking good.

Hello, I've talked with a couple of you on other posts about Mareks and one of my hens. Since then my BO hen has made a 75% recovery, but after a great deal of research, she'll likely die in a few weeks anyway if it's Mareks. I had a silkie hen also come down with the same symptoms, and then a couple BLR roos. Though I talked with the state vet and was told I was over reacting, I really think it's Mareks. I found a vet to do the necropsy, so at least the next to go will reveal whatever this is. I have to say though, my little splash silkie is one tough little bird!! She just will not die

I know that may sound afwul but she was in such bad shape, despite me trying every trick in the book. I have prepared for her death several times now, but each time she just keeps going! I just love her!!

So for the OP, I had a BO hen, 20+ weeks, not laying yet, staggering, uncoordinated, laying down alot, eventually unable to stand or feed. I wormed my flock, treated for cocci with Sulmet, added a vit/min supplement, and dosed my BO hen with a ton of vit E. I repeated the vit E for 3 days, and then just let it go. The hen has made a 75% recovery, still stumbles a bit but looks good otherwise. Within a day or two my splash silkie began with the same symptoms, I did the same thing for her but she is not responding as well, though she is still alive. In case I missed something I started her on amoxicillan, since I had some. I'm out of options with her. What doesn't kill her may cure her, or at least that's the hope. I won't treat the roos, but will have one necropsied next week if it dies.

In my research I read that most birds will die from Mareks before 25 weeks, after that it's not likely to be Mareks. So if you're birds are over a year it may not be Mareks. Another thread had mentioned toxins creating the same symptoms. Both interesting things to consider. Good luck to all of us!!

Marek's can hit at any age, it's more common in 8-25 week olds. All my deaths here were chicks/chickens that were under a year old except for one.

Seminolewind...I'm so sorry to hear about your polish baby!!! I had to have my dh euthanize my polish roo today. The others were picking on him and I just didn't have any more space in which to keep him safe

I know that it was the right thing to do but it didn't make it any easier

I also have a red polish that looks terrible...I've tried everything to make him better, nothing works. I went down to my basement to get him for my dh to 'help' also and his room mate cried so hard and so loudly that I just returned him...tomorrow is another day

He has been immunized and still is wasting away...I'm going to become one of the biggest outspoken advocate for vaccinating against this horrible disease. I tell everyone I know with chickens to vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate.

My black silkie was next to go...but, I went to get her and she had gotten out of her 'nest' that I made for her out of a tiny litter pan...first time in almost 2 weeks!!!

She looked so much stronger that I couldn't do it. Her droppings are even looking better
smile.png
I will keep up the vitamin therapy!

BTW....I was told that it would take up to two weeks of vitamins to even start seeing an improvement...those of us who are trying this, don't give up or stop the vitamins too soon. But, do not overdue the vitamins. I was told that in itself could be deadly. Just stick with the recommended dosages...but keep it going!!!!

Again...good luck everyone, this is a horrible illness

All but one of my infected chickens are over 25 weeks...

I notice you said your roo was immunized but is still wasting. Did you get confirmation of Mareks? If you have it confirmed in birds over 25 weeks, there goes my hope that this will be behind me soon. Mine are all approaching 25 weeks.

I've read article after article, and not Wikipedia, I'm reading results/studies from universities. Mareks seems like a catch all term for any tumors in chickens. Another question for you long term chicken owners, is this becoming MORE prevalent? I owned chickens back when and they were never sick, I just don't get this
sad.png
One of my hens that died with similar symptons was vaccinated, and so is the BO I recently treated. So if we took all the "data" from BYCs, Mareks can strike at any age, closed flocks, vaccinated or not

The whole thing is just so depressing.
