I need your expert opinion- we had very very hot temps on Sunday upwards of 110. I found my chicken in the coop after possibly laying an egg- she was hyperventilating, on the ground and unable to walk. Her right leg seems paralyzed. I took her in the house and isolated her in a cat carrier, she eats fine, drinks and has even laid 3 eggs this week, but can't stand on the leg. At first I thought her leg was broken, but now thinking paralyzed. Any thoughts? Thank you so much.

I am not an expert but paralysis can be a symptom of Mareks disease.especially paralysis of the legs. Is the leg sticking out in a other than natural position? Can you perhaps post a picture of her and her legs? I think that would be very helpful in helping diagnose the problem. I do hope I'm wrong . its difficult to
know for sure. A picture would be very helpful. I wish you the best
After you post her picture we might be able to tell more of what's happening. God bless

The bird is 2.5 years old, there seems to be no pain in the leg, she can stand on it, but toes curl under. After lots of reading on the forum, thought it could be Mareks, but this just came on so suddenly with excessive heat wave. Anyway, I guess I need to figure out how to post a picture. Thank you for your response, realsis.

At 2.5 yrs old, I may have expected a Marek's victim to waste away. It's usually the young ones with paralysis. HOW ever, it's always possible.

But I think with those temps, anything can happen. Maybe she just needs healing time. When it's hot, I have about 16 soda bottles filled with water that I freeze and toss in their water. It does help.

The chicken is still paralyzed. I am keeping her in a temporary enclosure in the backyard, at least she can get some fresh air and see her friends walking around. I am not expecting any miracles. It has been over a week now.
