i have this quail that is lying on its side with the legs stretched out. Her feather is fluffed up, and she does not drink or eat. Her legs have some consciousnes, but cannot maintain balance. She was fine yesterday evening, just sleeping a lot. Today when I went to check, she was lying on the side, paralyzed looking. Here is a picture. Anyone know what is going on? I use to have marek in my flock, but this quail’s symptom is somewhat different.

Is the bird off the ground outside? Any cagemates having symptoms even if not this exact one? Mereks can remain the soil or if you kept any of the original birds, the dander can spread through the wind although not very common. Botulism from stagnant water can cause symptoms of being drunk and falling over. I have had my share of weird quail diseases but not this exact symptom. I have not had good success with off colored birds and although they are pretty not as robust as the most established colors.

Hummmm, I’ll check. I’ve disinfected the cage every time we have an illness, but we do have the original birds with marek (in fact we only have 10 quails, and we are pretty sure all of them have mareks, we had 4 previous case). But I was thinking if this case is different? becuase its a lot not like the previous mareks we had.

You could try propping her up. Usually when we find them down, they've been sick for a bit. Honey is a good suppliment to get them going. A small amount may rejuvenate her
