This is a topic that interests me because I have experienced several paranormal incidents in my lifetime. The latest have occurred after my wife and I moved to the family home place property back in 2014. It should be noted that the house my Dad grew up in had burnt down in 1955 and an uncle perished in the fire. Prior to that, my Grandmother (1943), Grandfather (1943) and an aunt (1942) had died there as well from natural causes. Prior to those deaths, family history had always maintained that a ghost dog frequented the property and my Dad who was born in 1921 saw it several times while being reared there. As for our recent experiences, my wife and I had our home placed on the very spot the family house had sat. Shortly after we moved in is when things started occurring. These would include knocks on our bedroom door, usually at around 4:00 AM and always three consecutive ones. We would often hear footsteps on our front and back stoops and those would generally occur at night but have also occurred during the day. At times through the intervening years, my wife's music boxes are often heard playing for a few seconds and lately in the evenings we sometimes smell the faint aroma of perfume/cologne and cigarette smoke although neither of us wear or partake in those things. As I noted in my opening sentence, I have always experienced paranormal incidents but it took my wife aback initially. But over time she has accepted the fact that there are family spirits stirring about and they mean us no harm. I feel they are glad to have family back on the property that was originally purchased by my Grandpa in 1900.

I have a few stories myself.
Here's one. My Husband and I rented the upstairs of my parents house and my sister had a basement suite. She would experience her lamps turning on and off and her pictures taken off the walls in the basement. We would know that she wasn't home but heard someone running up and down the stairs to the basement on more than one occasion. Could hear muffled talking downstairs too. One night we were watching a movie and something was banging like with a Broom up towards our floor from her basement. We were so scared. In that old house it had a storage cellar with a dirt floor. That was a scary unnerving house. My parents sold the house so we went and rented another house and the ghost moved with us. Same exact things began to happen. My Son was only two and was terrified of his bedroom and called what ever he was seeing Santa and would cry. We only stayed there a month and we moved to our own place and my sister did also. The ghost never followed us again.

Sounds like Poltergeist activity.
 
Poltergeist aren't bad, but they can cause trouble. They're normally associated with growing kids, & teenagers who have growing brains. They're more open to other realms, & bring out spirits through emotions.

It definitely was scary...
I also think right after my Dad passed away he would come and visit my Son. My Son was three when he passed away and my Son would go in my walkin closet and tell me to go away so he could talk to Oscar..He was never scared and would chatter away to someone.

That's possible too.
He can be the second spirit, but the friendly one.
 
The house we are in now has a spirit although it's friendly.
I was sitting here right after we moved in and talking on the phone one morning to my Mom. I happened to look down the hallway towards the bedrooms and on the wall in light a tall man shadow walked across the light. I interrupted my mom and told her what I saw. Also some nights we could hear someone in the kitchen opening the cupboards. I always sense someone looking at me so I turn around and they are gone.

Anything is better then a poltergeist.
We've had a poltergeist for years. Imagine walking into the kitchen, you go over the fridge, & a loaf of bread lands on top of your head? Happened to me, & my mom more then once.

Poltergeist means Noisy Ghost in German.
