Parasites in the nesting box

Yes it is old bag, I don't have any issues with mites or lice and I check my birds often. I live in the Az. Desert. I sometimes would make a dip with it for the birds before the molt. What's the best to use now to dip or dust? Thanks

DE won't do the job, and is hazardous to breathe. Permethrin spray is the least expensive, approved, and easiest to use product for chickens and their housing. Permethrin dust also will work, but is more expensive and harder to use. Carbaryl is no longer approved for use in chickens in the USA. It make sense to use an effective, inexpensive, and approved product, rather than getting creative! Mary

Is diatomaceos earth safe for chickens and, if so, will it kill the parasites?
Diatomaceos Earth is safe for chickens, I use it in my coop. You may have some kind of mite, you can spread the DE on the floor of the coop and nest boxes. but you will want to keep the coop doors and windows open for the day so the dust can settle and so the chickens wont breath it in. I used to see some little bugs like this in my coop but sense I started using DE I have not had any problems with them.

Even if it has a food grade label it's still dangerous to breathe in?

Alright now Im confused
One person is saying it DOES work, another person is saying it doesnt. The Diamtomaceos Earth we have has a food grade label on it. We keep the door open all day anyway, and we have two vent holes in the coop as well. Can I put the DE in the nesting boxes, then the hay, and then let it sit outside the coop for a few minutes to settle?

I'm sure there are conflicting opinions/experiences, but in my experience yes it does work. And yes- that will work as well. I go in every other week and dust down my coop, the bedding, nesting boxes, roosts, etc. Have had zero issues.
