How old are your chickens? Raising it or moving it away from the bedding is about the only way unless you use nipple waterers.

If you have chicks it does get better when they’re out and about but some things you’ll deal with forever. Like a dirty waterer from time to time.

What are you using as a waterer? How do you have that set up? There are a lot of different things you could be doing. What are you using for bedding? A photo might be helpful.

It can be hard to keep the water clean. They can put a lot of power behind their scratching. I tried hanging a homemade waterer once, hanging helped. I've been known to not only raise the waterer but build a raised platform above the bedding and raised the waterer a bit above that. They can stand on the platform to reach it. They still scratch stuff onto the platform and eventually into the waterer but it slows them down.

Even if I can keep the water clean I still dump it every two days. Mosquito larva can mature in the waterer, by dumping it every two days I can keep those wigglers from turning into mosquitoes.
