parrot and dove together

I agree, I wouldnt put him in my own bed room or living room. An empty room without furniture would work, you'd have to remove the carpet. I always think of Micheal from parrot wizards large indoor room for his green wing macaw when I think of macaws without cages.

Oh well I have got a larger cage now and I am putting my blue and gold in it now. He comes out of the cage when I am home (which I am after 4pm until 6am the next day, but he sleeps in his cage. I am working on potty training him now. (I say he but I am not sure working on where to get DNA sexing right now, his/her name is rajh. Pronounced rahj-ha.

Avian Biotech does really inexpensive DNA sexing. Several people including myself used them to Dna sex our fids. You can do a new bird combo. It sonly $85and they do several tests.

If you plan to try "potty training" your macaw, aim to reward pooping when on the cage without prompting, rather than pooping on-cue. The latter sometimes inadvertently leads to birds "holding it" until "given permission" to poop, which can cause a prolapse in extreme cases. My DYH Amazon gets rewarded when he returns to his cage to poop (he's fully flighted) by my "excited" rendition of "Yay! Sammy made poopie on the cage! Good boy!" If he looked like he was "thinking about pooping", I'd send him to fly back to his cage, and just wait. If he didn't go right away, I'd say "Is the poopie coming? Make poopie on the cage." When "it happened", he'd get the "excited verbal reward." Maybe once or twice a month he "makes a mistake", but overall, he has known to "make poopie on the cage" for years now, and readily returns on his own from wherever he is in my home when "nature calls." Newspaper on the carpet around the cage catches anything that misses the tray.
