Hello all,

yesterday I noted that the comb of one of my year old Rhode Island Reds was partially black. Not sure what happened but it looks almost as if part of her comb got torn and is flopping around. The outside of the potential wound area is black and—not sure how helpful of a reference this will be —looks like the end of a nylon rope that was burnt to stop it from fraying.

I saw that black spots could indicate liver issues, but this doesn’t look like that. Wondering if my potential diagnosis of a year is correct and if anyone has any treatment recommendations.

I have attached some photos.
Thanks

It looks like she’s been injured on the back side. It could have caused blood flow not to reach the comb properly. If possible I’d put something on that to keep others from pecking it.
