Hi all!

I noticed one of my RIRs had a pretty poopy back side. When I looked closer, she had something hanging out of her vent. I brought out some warm water and gave her a bath. I lightly pulled and got some off (some poop came out with it), but it looked like ther was more to go. I didn't want to give her a prolapsed vent so when the vent started to look a little red and enlarged, I stopped pulling, but some shell went back in. It still looks like she is trying to get something out.

What should I do? Another warm bath? Oil the vent? Leave her be?

Thanks for any advice!

I would try to pull the membrane out. She sounds like she has either had an egg break inside, or she may have salpingitis, an inflammation of the oviduct. I would give her some extra calcium in the form of human calcium, Tums, or a ground egg shell with a little egg yolk. Do this for several days until she lays a hard shell.

Warm epsom salt soak, blow dry her. You may also trim the feathers on her bum a tad so you can see/clean messes or problems better. Give some calcium as advised. You may also want to keep her confined to an area for a bit so you can keep a close eye on her and to see if she passes the rest of egg
