Partridge in ARAUCANAS? ***PICS added***

Yep, hatched here on my place! She's had two mothers and also is very sweet with me. I'll get some more photos soon to try and show her tufts better. They look like wings flapping when she is eating or pecking around.

Indeed I would love to make more or refine this! I hope Krys, Henk, Tim and Blackdotte chime in so I don't ruin this. I have a few more pullets that are not as refined as this chick.

She looks like a partridge. Not the color partridge, but an actual partridge/quail. lol

She is definitely a true araucana. Araucana folks are not nearly as nit picky about varieties being recognised as are ameraucana folks. It probably helps that araucanas are a lot further from the appearance of common EE traits.

True araucanas can also have tails and not have tufts, although those birds are not show quality. But they are definitely useful as breeders.

Her colour doesn't look quite partridge to me, but I am used to seeing the pattern on silkie feathers or adult feathers of other breeds at shows. I haven't seen non-silkied juvenile feathers in partridge, so I could well be wrong on that comment.

SHe is sure a pretty bird, though.

Do you have pics of her chick down? "Partridge" (eb) down: "Can range from a solid dark mink brown to light brown with stripes. The most accurate typing for eb is that they have brown heads with no stripes on the head".

Here's an earlier pic of her with the two hens who mothered her for awhile. The marans hen actually hatched her.

Such a cute little tiny thing. I think bantam araucana chicks are about the best chicks around!
