Partridge Rock vs. Partridge Wyandotte

Does anyone have any pictures of their Partridge Rocks and Partridge Wyandottes?

I'd like to compare the two breeds, and most of the pics and info that I have found are of European birds. Naturally, the European chickens are gorgeous, but that doesn't really help me to see what the birds generally look like here in the states.

So, if anybody has any photos, I'd love to see them!

Personally...I prefer the Wyandottes. The combs, being rosecombs, makes it more difficult for them to get frostbite. However, I have Barred Rocks and prefer the rocks because of their sweeter nature.

My partridge rocks look just like the one in the pic you posted from Cackle.

They are beautiful and one looks like she is going to go broody on me.

I wonder if they are good mommas.

I had partridge rocks and didn't like them at all. They were the flightiest birds I've ever had.

Thanks for the pics, Mikarod! They are both beautiful breeds. I'm still not sure, but I think I prefer the Wyandotte body type. I like rose combs, too, although frostbite isn't such a problem here in VA.

Mahonri, Broody, huh? Do you know if that tends to be a trait common to Partridge Rocks? I ask because I have oodles of broodies already, and I'm sorta trying to avoid any more breeds known for broodiness. I do love my broodies, but I already have 6 confirmed broodies, and innocently enough, I hatched eggs from a broody hen, so I expect those pullets will be broody come spring... Live and learn!

Buster, I'm surprised that your Partridge Rocks were so flighty. I think of all Plymouth Rocks as being friendly birds, but maybe that isn't true for all the colors. Do you mind if I ask where you got yours?

It does seem that the roo in the other pic had a lot more gold tones in the feathers. And the hen is lighter, too.

Are those European birds? (Love those European birds!)

I have had two batches of PR's . The first weren't worth a darn. This second group is AWESOME. Friendly, playful, good size, good color. A few, even two roos, fly into my arms when they get let out in the morning. Total cuddle birds and the others are all friendly.

Their colors are fun to watch change. Single comb isn't a problem in Tn much. They're thriving with out too much maintenance.

I have one SLW and she's a freak. So that's all I know about Wyandottes.

I think you can get weird and bad in any breed depending on where and who you get them from.

For me it's PR's. Rocks produce and my Grandmother's weren't freakishly broody.

Honestly? I have no clue about the bantam Wyandottes I posted. I've seen birds like that, but usually they're hatchery birds. I was trying to find some that might look like what you're wanting. Especially if you order hatchery stock. Let me see if I can't find a nice photo of a standard bird.

Those are good pics!

These birds definitely favor the male line. I'm going to have to work to get the penciling that clear with these in the hens. This batch for the most part is headed to true to body type. Some are smaller than I think I want to grow out all the way.

Still really happy with the bunch. PR's rock. LOL.
