I have a 2 year old brahma bantam hen who I had to assist with a broken soft shelled egg 2 days ago. I first noticed her looking down Friday night, then Saturday morning she was passing egg whites. I checked her vent with a gloved finger and immediately a lot of yolk and a couple pieces of soft shell came out. Did all the recommended egg bound treatment: epsom bath, calcium tablet, massage. She's been on expired enrofloxacin since Saturday ( all I have on hand) and has shown little improvement. She is still eating and drinking but tail down and lethargic. This morning she found some maggots (gross but her favorite snack) and ate a lot of them. Just now when I checked on her I found some undigested maggots in her poop which is still watery. Please if anyone has any advice on what I can do for her I would appreciate it so much. There are not many avian vets around, those we have are booked weeks in advance. We have 1 emergency pet clinic that doesn't have a bird specialist and they are very expensive. Please help

Hello! Keep her on calcium citrate, add grit to her food, give her raw yolk to eat and nutri drench in her water (5 days on, 5 days off). Can you order amoxicillin? In the meantime, add oregano and garlic to her food.

Can you give her another Epsom bath see if it helps her pass anything left inside.

I actually went and got some amoxitex that has amoxicillin and tylan. Will get her on that asap. I'll do the epsom bath again, but I checked her with a gloved finger today and couldn't feel any shell unless it's past where I can reach? I don't have nutridrench but I have hydro hen so might try that for now. I do have Oregano and garlic so I'll mix that in with her mash. Thank you for the advice!

If you have molasses and b complex, you can add to the hydro hen. If you're adding molasses, five days on/five days off. It will give her the runs if you give it to her for too long.

She has the runs right now anyway.. ever since passing the broken egg. But I might have some molasses, if I do I'll add that in. Thank you!

Hello, I’m dealing with a similar situation. You never gave a final update. Did she pass or make it through?
