My Derbyshire redcap is passing clots. I noticed something bloody coming out of her vent and thought maybe she had a broken egg inside. I lubed up a gloved finger and felt her up, nothing that I could feel. She is passing clots (livery looking things) along with some solid poop. There is no blood flowing. She is a sporadic layer (as most redcaps are) and is a little over 2 years old. She is one of my friendliest and most curious chickens, so when I let them out into their grassy run to forage tonight, she just sat in a nest box, a-typical for her. I got her out and she went right back into the coop, that's when I noticed the bloody butt when she started to go up the ramp. She is inside resting comfortably inside in a kennel with water and soft foods until I can figure out what is wrong. I don't want to give her solids if it's just going to irritate her bowels. I can't afford a $500 vet bill. Anyone with the same experience and anything I can do, please let me know. All my gals have a very healthy, well-balanced diet with plenty of calcium from oyster shell and recycled groung egg shells, greens and organic 16% layer mash. No one else is exhibiting any type of illness, skin problems or worms. They get apple cider vinegar in their water and have been drinking it since they've been chicks.
Thank you, Lori

Man I wish I could offer you some help.. Im sorry she is having a hard time.. Lets hope someone with more experience can chime in

Well, after having her in the house overnight, she passed more livery looking clots and then in the morning had pooped out an empty egg 'skin.' Weird. Then she was acting normal, no more passing blood or clots. I let her back out with the other girls and she is fine up to now. I'm wondering if that was attached to her inside somehow and was having difficulty passing it. Sorry I didn't reply sooner about the outcome. I didn't set the option to get reply notifications and thought no one wrote back.
