Passing trait

I'll look into the temperament of the Phoenix to be sure. But yes a Phoenix would be the most logical choice.

If you're willing to have a few extra chickens and then butcher some, you could get a cockerel or two of each breed and see what you think of them in person. That is probably the most accurate way to pick the one you will like best, and then of course you can butcher the extra ones.

I never see those offered locally. I've checked Craigslist and local hatcheries.

I like the look on the sumatra tail, it's semi long and full, and I'd like to have something similar. I have thought of using a Phoenix but the tail looks stringy to me and it's natural behavior seems more on the aggressive side which I don't want.

The chickens I have now are very docile and I don't want to change that.

Having a Swedish flower rooster with a long beautiful tail, would just be for myself and a pet. I have no intention of selling crosses.
Crossing the Phoenix would make the tail slightly shorter so it won’t be as stringy looking.

I checked several online hatcheries, and they're mostly sold out for the year.

welphatchery.com has phoenix (gold or silver) to ship in November. They won't sex the chicks, and have a minimum order of 30.

meyerhatchery.com has black sumatras, males only, available in August; they currently have females and males listed for September. Their minimum order is 3 chicks.

McMurray, Ideal, and Cackle all had them earlier this year, but have quit for the season.

At this point my only option is to wait next spring or keep looking for hatching eggs.
I mostly agree :(

Buying some next spring would slow down your project, but saving a few generations (by starting with the right comb type) might speed it up again, so I don't know which would actually work better for you.

Thank you for your help.
