I just want to thank the person that suggested molasses for pasting up chicks! And PLEASE FORGIVE ME that I don't remember who I first saw mention it. I read so many posts on it I forgot to write the poster's name down.

For my quart waterer I used about 1/4 tsp of molasses which made it look like weak tea
I am a newbie and just got four adorable 2-day old silkies. I have had them for two days now. Two to three of them had pasty butts often. More than one time a day, they all got "Butt-Tubby" treatments. The sweetest baby, the little black baby, was the worst. Each time I had to hold her butt under running water and pick it apart because it would NOT soften. Poor baby head. She'll probably hate me for life.
Well after their "Butt-Tubby" washing / torture treatment this morning [for 3 of them!] I decided to try the molasses in the water. Right then.
Well, their little butts dried, and THEY HAVE BEEN CLEAN AND FLUFFY ALL DAY!! Zero pasty butt!
I am totally amazed that it worked so quickly. Amazed and SOOO thankful to whoever shared this great solution!
