Hi All,

I have six chicks that I purchased on 3/3. On the 4th two of them were pasted up. Those two still have poop stuck on their behinds but the vent isn't clogged. My question is should I soak and remove the poop or leave it since the vent isn't clogged? Thanks

Sorry posted this is the wrong forum. Not sure how to delete. Going torepost where it goes.

I would work a little harder with warm water and maybe a bit of dawn dish soap to remain the poo around the vent. As long as it is there it's likely to collect more when the chick goes again. You could also put Vaseline on it and the vent would should help loosen it up. If you get the butt wet, please be sure to dry when finished.

You gotta use your fingers and squish it. I know it's gross lol but my hen got sick and wouldn't stand up and had that issue. At least there babies so there poo isn't toooo bad yet

I trim the fluff around the chicks' vents when the problem gets too bad. A little bit of vaseline or vegetable oil rubbed on the area will also help, but the best preventative I found is adding a few drops of ACV (apple cider vinegar) to their drink water. Since I've started doing that I haven't had a pasty butt issue and I've raised many chicks. It's a great supplement for older chickens as well. Just don't offer an ACV mix in a metal waterer, always use plastic.
