Half of my chicks have poop building up on them. I’ve been reading what to do and have been cleaning them as others have instructed. My question is, how much apple cider vinegar do I add to the water? Should I put x amount to a gallon of water or be adding a splash to their daily water? Also, how long should I add the acv to their water? Should I switch between the acv water and probiotic/electrolyte? Thanks

I just use a few drops to a waterer full every other change and a very light dose of probiotics and electrolytes with the ACV. I actually have no idea if this is a good way to use them so I'm looking forward to answers also.

I have had a chick with pasty butt, too. Sadly, he passed away, (R.I.P Toddle :(), so I am awaiting answers as well. I guess we are all in the same boat here :D

When my shipped chicks were dealing with it, I cleaned them off, then greased around the vent on their fluffy little butts with a little bit of Bag Balm to keep any more from sticking. It worked. I also put the organic ACV in their water - about a teaspoon to a quart, which is less than I've seen recommended (4 tablespoons to a gallon), and a bit of Sav-a-Chick.

I use a capful in a quart waterer every time I change the water. I haven’t dealt with pasty butt but once since I started using it. I continue it for the first 7-10 days, when I put them outside and I’m too lazy to fetch the ACV from the kitchen when filling waterer a outside, lol. I’ve never had pasty butt on a chick more than a week old.

Make sure that your chickens don't have a condition that used to be called "White Bacillus Diarrhea" and now flies under a new name, Salmonella Pullorum Disease. This is the most serious infectious disease in domestic chickens and testing positive for it may mean that your entire flock will be condemned. The fact that this chick has already gone on to its reward is disturbing.
