I'm sorry I'm posting all this questions but it's my first hatch.... I have a chick that was being bullied around so we separated the bully, but now we realized that the she had pasty butt, her butt is really inflamed and sometimes she looks like she's going to poop yet she doesn't.

I cleaned it with warm water, put some oil on her, and when I was putting oil on her butt, she pushed and nothing came out....

Now I've added probiotics to her food, the temp is right, high under the heat lamp and cooler away from it (they cuddle under it to sleep but move around very actively otherwise).

Please help, she looks like this and I'm worried!!!

Sometimes when you wipe the vent it stimulates those muscles so it looks like they are bearing down for a bowel movement. Keep feeding her and giving electrolytes- the electrolytes will help with the bowel movements. Keep some warm water handy and a few q-tips for the cleaning. You can scramble an egg and feed it to them. Mash it up into tiny pieces. They’ll love it.

I had a polish chick that had pasty butt for nearly a month. She eventually got past it but she’s my little buddy and now I can pick her up any time I want to because she learned to trust me since I had to handle her so frequently.

How do I make a smoothie?? And how do I make electrolytes for chicks? She's 3 days old.... I managed to help her poop and gave her a bit of olive oil to eat. She's a bit lethargic but chirping a lot and I saw her eat a little bit.

This video has a great homemade electrolyte recipe. (Recipe and specific instructions in video description). Also you can purchase premixed electrolyte packs of the dry ingredients to add to a gallon of water at ant farm feed store

Thank you guys!!! I live in Chile so a lot of things you recommend me to buy are not available, but I had powder electrolytes, I diluted a bit in water and mixed them with egg yolk... She ate quite a bit, drop by drop placed on the side of it's beak. Right now, she's resting next to her siblings but separated by a piece of wire fence.

She managed to poop a bit more, her poop is really dry!!! I'll feed her again in a while, get some antibiotic ointment (there's one available with two types of antibiotic), cause her butt has got a couple of wounds.

I'm hoping for the best and trying to get ready for the worst.

How long ago did she hatch? Is it possible it is still absorbing the egg?? I had a couple duck hatches that were complicated because some curious chickens and the baby's were still absorbing the egg by time they lost the shell the eager buggers, looks similar

Thursday morning... And she was quite active on Friday

Hi all.... just wanted to let you know that the baby chick managed to make it through the night, I am still "force" feeding her, drop by drop of egg yolk with electrolytes, her butt is much less inflamed but she still struggles to poop. I got double antibiotic ointment, so I've been applying that on her butt instead of oil.

I don't know if I'm doing the right thing by doing all of this, she seems to be struggling, she sleeps all the time unless she's trying to poop.

How long should I keep doing this?
