We got our shipment from MM yesterday and everyone seemed to be doing fine. This afternoon though I noticed we had a buff cochin with massive pasty butt. I used a warm papertowl and carefully cleaned as much as I could but it was really bad. Now the chick seems to be uncomfortable, almost like she is straining or something, standing up straight. I have medicated feed, removed sugar water, grit added this afternoon, shaving added this afternoon, not too crowded. Any other suggestions? TIA

If they still have pasty butt and you cant get the poop off with a paper towel try dipping their rears in a little bit of warm water. Just be extremely careful because chicks will drown! I even tryed using a Q-tip. I dipped it in a little warm water. It worked good. Just remember to be gentle. Also this pasty butt doesnt last forever so dont worry. It should only last for their first week.

After you have the whole area cleaned put on a little olive oil or Vaseline to help stuff not stick how is the little chick doing this morning?
