I just hatched 2 chicks in my incubator, and will be taking them out tomorrow to be put in the brooder. But I am new to hatching and of course have posted a million questions.. thank you to those who have helped me šŸ™

My question is.. 1st do I need to change the temp in the incubator now that they’ve both hatched until brooder time?

And also is pasty butt a concern or something I should look for or clean after removing them from the incubator? I noticed the dried up blood from the umbilical cord but is that preventing them from using the bathroom?

Thank you as always šŸ’•šŸ£

You don't need to change the temperature but I usually do take it down to 95F from 99.5 as the brooder starts out at 95F so it'll be the same. That's up to you. Most don't, but I leave mine in there longer than most I assume too.

Pasty butt occurs usually because they get too hot. Make sure your brooder has your heat on one end and food/water on the opposite side. That way if they get too hot, they have a way to cool down.

If they get it and it's loose on their feathers, you can just pick it off. If it's stuck to them, I use a warm washcloth (rag) to soften it, then it comes off. I blow dry them on low/warm before putting them back.
